CSCI is searching for a TS/SCI cleared junior technical editor to support a customer in reviewing the technical writers’ work, writing articles, designing templates and graphics, and developing manuals within a government program. The candidate will work with various project management to understand functional and technical information and requirements.

This role is required to provide support, onsite, Mon-Fri .

Responsibilities

The candidate’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform both copy editing and proofreading of technical documents to include user manuals, reports, instructions, briefs, and technical guides for clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, content, format, and style. Make any necessary corrections to technical documents; conform to strict editing guidelines and security clearance protocols.
  • Conduct quality assurance on all printed documents, including brochures, security class guides, official correspondence, briefing materials, etc. Ensure that all written content meets our company’s standards and those of the customer.
  • Verify information to include checking facts, reviewing resources, or conducting additional research. Collaborate with writers, subject matter experts, researchers, and developers to ensure document accuracy.
  • Create style guides and produce templates to help writers center on the client’s preferred style and writing voice and streamline future efforts; ensure templates are easy to apply and adapt.
  • Manage publication process to include tracking publication calendars and ensuring timely production. Develop, communicate, and adhere to goals for content, workflow, and aim of writing. Give feedback and advice to technical writers.
  • Review, edit and analyze SAP lifecycle documentation technical and programmatic content in order to provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Implement a tracking process for lifecycle documentation support efforts and products. Ensure currency of tracking data, provide status upon request.
  • Update and improve materials monthly based on feedback from training sessions and changes to templates or processes.
  • Within security compartmentalization or technical limitations serve as the alternate to peer personnel requirements.
  • Collaborate with authors, assigned stakeholders, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gain better understanding of subject matter.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Skills

Experience:

This position will require presence in a professional office setting in Springfield, VA for 8 hour days, 5 days per week, Mon – Fri.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in developing, managing, and reviewing executive-level documentation including reports, whitepapers, proposals, or briefings and technical documentation.
  • Candidate must have ability to communicate effectively and with courteous professionalism while providing customer support.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and customer relation skills.
  • Exceptional editing, proofreading, and page composition skills, technical reporting, collaboration, excellent computer and word processing skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • The candidate must be cleared at a TS/SCI security level.

Education:

BA/BS in Journalism, English, or a related field. 6 years of work experience in a related field is an acceptable equivalent.

Additional Experience Desired:

The following additional experience is desirable and may help the candidate excel within the position:

  • Detailed knowledge of a variety of technical topics and the U.S. Navy in general.
  • Experience as a technical writer.
  • Experience with desktop publishing, multimedia production, and online documentation software.
  • Experience with editorial guidelines.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and handle pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail; time management; and
  • Knowledge of classified networks.
