A Day in the Life – Tonya
What is your title? Describe what you do.
I’m a Security Specialist, responsible for implementing and maintaining security measures in the areas of personnel, information, and physical security.
Why did you choose to work for CSCI?
One of my close friends was working here and said it was a great place to work. After talking to other people who worked here, I knew that this was going to be the place for me. CSCI was also my first job after retiring from the military.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy learning new things from the people I work with. I like that I can continuously learn more in the different areas of security. As well as stay abreast to changes in the security world.
What are three things you do every day? Do you have any morning “rituals”?
I usually eat a bowl of oatmeal every morning while checking my emails. I also try to say good morning to everyone who comes into the office because one positive action in the morning can change your whole day.
What advice would you give to someone looking to pursue a role like yours? Are there specific character traits or skills/certifications you should possess?
To be a Security Specialist, you need to be open to learning new things and self-motivated. A certification that may help is a Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC).
What’s on your work playlist?
I listen to all kinds of music. Typically, at work I listen to country music and for my ride into work I listen to contemporary gospel.
If you could take a vacation tomorrow, where would you go?
I love to travel and have been a lot of places, but I would like to go to Fiji.
What animal were you in a past life?
I might have been a bird because I’m free-spirited and love to go places.
